eufy SoloCam S340

Our pick for an open area where a moving view and telephoto option fit the way people cross the property.

  • Pan-and-tilt tracking
  • 3K wide and 2K telephoto cameras
  • 8GB built-in local storage
  • Detachable solar panel included

Their two-lens designs solve different problems: Reolink combines its views into a panorama; eufy uses wide-angle and telephoto cameras on a moving head.

Both offer battery power, solar charging and local recording without a required monthly storage plan. Neither is a continuous-recording camera. Your mounting position and the shape of the area should decide this purchase before the resolution label does.

Research-based comparison, checked October 11, 2026. We reviewed manufacturer specifications, compatibility lists and installation guidance. We have not conducted a hands-on, side-by-side test.

The real choice: a complete wide view or a camera that follows

Imagine a two-car driveway with a footpath along one side. If both fit inside the Argus 4 Pro’s frame, an event clip can retain the parked cars and approaching visitor together. There is no motorized turn that moves the entire picture away from the other side. This is our preferred design when several points deserve attention at once.

The S340 makes more sense when an important route stretches around the camera’s position. Its head can turn to follow activity, while its telephoto camera provides an alternative to enlarging the wide view alone. However, its advertised 360° coverage is achieved by moving. It does not record every direction simultaneously. Eufy’s own coverage explanation confirms that the starting view is vacated during tracking.

That trade matters if someone approaches a gate while another person is beside a car. One moving camera may be looking toward only one of those locations. Where both are critical, consider overlapping camera positions rather than expecting tracking to replace every fixed view. Walls, hedges and the house itself still block either camera.

Neither gives you an uninterrupted video timeline

Argus 4 Pro is designed for motion events and occasional remote viewing. Reolink’s manual explicitly rules out around-the-clock operation at full capacity. Eufy’s S340 FAQ likewise says it cannot record continuously, including with HomeBase 3.

Solar charging replenishes the battery; it does not change those recording modes. A hub can provide another storage location, but it cannot create footage the camera never recorded. If your main requirement is reviewing any arbitrary minute of the day, choose a model explicitly designed for continuous recording before comparing these two further.

Local storage, subscriptions and the hub question

Reolink gives you the more flexible on-camera storage route. You can choose a compatible microSD card up to 512GB. S340 includes 8GB, so there is no card to buy initially, but expanding beyond that built-in capacity means considering a compatible hub. Include the card or hub in your total setup cost.

Both work without a hub. For centralized storage, Reolink’s current compatibility list covers Argus 4 Pro across Home Hub, Home Hub Pro, Home Hub Mini and Home Hub 2. Eufy’s current matrix lists S340 with HomeBase Mini, HomeBase 3 and HomeBase 2. Its separate Professional S1 list also includes S340. Compatibility does not mean every hub provides identical features.

Core AI alerts do not require a paid plan: Argus 4 Pro includes person, vehicle and animal detection; S340 includes human and vehicle detection. With separately purchased HomeBase 3, eufy adds BionicMind features including familiar-face recognition and pet detection. That is a hardware upgrade, rather than a mandatory AI subscription. See the Reolink feature page and S340 feature FAQ.

Do not assume a cloud subscription solves every storage concern. Reolink lists cloud availability only in selected countries. Eufy’s model-specific storage table marks S340 as unsupported for NAS and Cloud Backup, despite generic cloud promotions elsewhere. Confirm your exact setup before paying. For theft concerns, prioritize getting recordings off the exposed camera onto a compatible indoor hub.

Solar and mounting: plan the panel separately from the view

The Reolink package compared here includes the 6W Solar Panel 2, which is the manufacturer’s recommended panel for Argus 4 Pro. S340’s panel can attach to the camera or sit separately using the included extension cable, as shown in its installation guide.

Do not declare a battery-life winner from panel wattage. The cameras have different power demands, and shade, season, event activity and live viewing affect the energy balance. An attractive mounting spot under an eave may need a separately positioned panel.

Eufy’s product page uses a two-hour daily sunlight claim, while its more cautious installation advice recommends three to four hours of direct sunlight. Treat that as a reason to leave charging margin, especially in winter. Its recommended camera height is 2–3 meters; Reolink specifies 2–2.5 meters. Both advise an angled approach to motion rather than aiming straight along the approaching person’s path.

Before drilling, check the live view from the proposed height, walk every entrance route and make sure the S340 has physical clearance to turn. A corner position only helps if the surrounding structure leaves useful sight lines.

Wi-Fi and night viewing can change the decision

Argus 4 Pro offers more network flexibility through dual-band Wi-Fi 6. S340 requires 2.4GHz. That makes Reolink the straightforward choice if a 5GHz connection is essential, although no radio specification guarantees reliable reception through your particular walls. Verify connectivity where the camera will actually sit.

Night viewing also deserves a practical check. Argus 4 Pro uses ColorX and has no infrared night-vision mode; its manual explains that the spotlights provide additional illumination when the scene is too dark. S340 also provides a spotlight for color night viewing. If visible lighting would disturb a neighbor or bedroom, resolve that placement issue before buying.

We would not promise readable license plates or recognizable moving faces at a particular distance from either specification sheet. The useful question is whether the target occupies enough of the picture, under your lighting, during motion. Eufy’s 8× hybrid zoom is a feature to investigate, not an assurance of identification.

Which one should you buy?

Our recommendation: start with Argus 4 Pro for a broad, shallow frontage where retaining the whole scene matters. Start with SoloCam S340 for an open yard where following activity and switching to a telephoto view are more useful. If either camera would regularly lose a critical entrance behind an obstruction, change the camera positions or plan additional coverage.

For the wider brand decision, see our eufy vs. Reolink comparison. If event clips leave too much uncertainty, start with our continuous-recording camera guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can either camera record 24/7 when connected to solar or a hub?

No. These models record triggered events. Solar helps maintain the battery, and a hub changes the storage arrangement. Neither addition turns Argus 4 Pro or SoloCam S340 into a continuous-recording camera. Choose a different model if a full timeline is essential.

Does the SoloCam S340 work with HomeBase 2?

Eufy’s compatibility matrix checked October 11, 2026 lists S340 model T8170 as supported with HomeBase 2, HomeBase 3 and HomeBase Mini. Older advice saying “HomeBase 3 only” is out of date. Check the capabilities of your exact hub; basic compatibility does not grant HomeBase 3’s BionicMind feature set.

Does Reolink’s 4K label guarantee better detail than eufy’s 3K camera?

No. Argus 4 Pro spreads its 5120 × 1440 image across a very wide panorama. S340 has separate wide-angle and telephoto views. The size of a person in the recorded image, lighting and movement matter alongside pixel count. Our recommendation follows coverage needs rather than assuming a resolution label wins.

How many days will 8GB or a 512GB card store?

There is no dependable single answer without your recording settings and event volume. Busy locations, longer clips and higher bitrates use storage faster. These are event cameras, so storage capacity should not be described as a fixed number of continuously recorded days. Save important clips before the system overwrites them.

Can I mount the camera under a porch roof?

Potentially, if its view and detection angle remain useful and the wireless connection works. The panel still needs suitable direct sunlight, which may require a separate mounting position. With S340, also check the moving head’s clearance. Test the proposed location before permanently fastening either camera.

How Entry Scout evaluates products

Compatibility → features → total cost → who it’s best for.

For this comparison, we prioritized simultaneous coverage, likely subject routes, recording gaps, storage expansion, charging exposure and installation feasibility. Resolution and zoom followed those requirements. We checked the cost implications of adding a memory card or hub, along with the limitations of a moving view.

Research checked October 11, 2026 using the manufacturer product pages, manuals, installation guides and compatibility lists linked above. We checked model-specific support pages where broader marketing could mislead, particularly HomeBase compatibility and cloud storage. This article covers Argus 4 Pro with the 6W Solar Panel 2 and SoloCam S340, without substituting features from similarly named cameras.

This is a research-based comparison. We have not conducted a hands-on, side-by-side test, and we did not assign performance scores or claim measured detection speed, battery endurance or night-image quality. Product bundles, firmware, regional cloud availability and hub features can change.
