Choose eufy E340 if you want saved doorstep events without a monthly recording bill. Choose Ring if you already use its cameras and are comfortable paying for cloud history. The deciding question is what you want to see after you miss an alert.
This Ring vs. eufy video doorbell comparison uses the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K and eufy Video Doorbell E340 as two concrete buying options. They are not identical products, and the advice below does not apply automatically to every doorbell either company sells.
The E340 adds a separate downward-facing camera for deliveries. Ring offers a straightforward choice for a household that wants its front door in the same app as its other Ring devices. Both can make sense; the recording arrangement matters more than a temporary checkout discount.

What happens when you miss the notification?
Imagine a delivery arrives while you are driving. An alert tells you something happened, but you cannot watch the live view. When you get home, you want to see whether the package was left behind the planter or beside the steps.
That is the practical difference between these setups. Ring’s free features include live viewing, motion alerts and two-way talk. Saved event history requires a compatible paid plan. A doorbell that can show you a visitor now is not necessarily saving that visit for later.
The E340’s local event recording gives it the stronger starting position when avoiding a recurring charge is a firm requirement. Its included storage lets you review recorded events without buying a separate recorder first. You still need to set up the device correctly and check that events are actually being captured.
For either brand, make a test delivery part of installation. Walk the normal approach, put a box where drivers leave it, then check the alert and resulting clip. Adjust the angle and detection settings before assuming the camera covers your entrance well.

eufy local storage: what is included, and what is optional?
The E340 product page confirms 8GB of built-in storage. You do not need a HomeBase for its basic local recording setup. That makes the doorbell-only purchase a reasonable place to start if you have one entrance and modest needs.
HomeBase is an optional expansion decision. eufy’s compatibility list includes the E340 with HomeBase 3, which provides expandable storage and additional system features. E340 also supports HomeBase 2. Check the exact hub and firmware before assuming an existing eufy accessory will work.
Our recommendation is to buy the simplest setup that solves your actual problem. Do not add a HomeBase solely because a bundle is described as more complete. Consider one when you want storage inside the house, more capacity or a broader compatible eufy camera system.
Storage capacity is not a guaranteed number of days. A quiet porch and a busy sidewalk generate very different workloads. The useful question is whether the retention you get in your own setup is long enough for how often you review footage. Export an important clip promptly instead of treating any rolling history as a permanent archive.
What if the doorbell is stolen?
Storage location matters. When a recording exists only on the device outside, losing that device creates an obvious retrieval problem. Keeping footage on an indoor hub can reduce that particular exposure, but you should verify where your own clips are stored and how to recover them.
eufy documents a video-retrieval feature for disconnected devices: retained HomeBase recordings can be accessed through the Events filter for disconnected devices after a supported camera is removed, reset or stolen. Do not assume footage is automatically inaccessible just because a device disappears from the normal device list.
Cloud storage has a different advantage: successfully uploaded footage is away from the doorbell. It still depends on the recording reaching the service and remaining within your retention settings. Neither approach is a substitute for saving evidence you need to keep.
Ring subscription costs: price the next three years
At the time of this October 2026 review, Ring’s US plans list Solo at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year for one device. Multi is $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year for eligible devices at one location. Applicable tax is additional.
Swipe sideways on a phone to see all plan details.
| Recording choice | One year | Three years at same annual rate |
|---|---|---|
| Ring Solo, one device | $49.99 | $149.97 |
| Ring Multi, one location | $99.99 | $299.97 |
| E340 built-in local recording | $0 recording fee | $0 recording fee |
Those totals are simple illustrations at the current annual rates, not a price guarantee or a three-year commitment. The hardware, installation and optional accessories are separate. Monthly billing costs more over a full year at these rates.
For a first-time buyer, add the chosen plan to the doorbell price before comparing offers. A $50 hardware saving can be outweighed by several years of recording fees. Conversely, eufy may cost more up front, especially if you choose a hub or additional accessories.
For a concrete example, Ring’s product page showed a $99.99 regular price and a $39.99 promotion on October 4, 2026; eufy showed $149.99 for E340. Using the Ring regular price plus three years of Solo billed annually gives $249.96, versus $149.99 for E340 with its included local recording. At the observed Ring promotional price, the same total would be $189.96. These are dated illustrations, excluding tax, installation and accessories, and assume plan rates stay unchanged. Recheck current offers before buying.
An existing Ring household should do a different calculation. If you already pay for an eligible Multi plan at this location, the additional recording cost of another covered doorbell may be zero. Switching brands purely to avoid a subscription you will keep paying anyway may not save you anything.
eufy’s no-fee local recording also does not mean every eufy service is free. Optional cloud features or memberships are separate purchasing decisions. Compare the setup you intend to use, rather than adding every service shown on either brand’s checkout page.
Does local recording mean no internet or no cloud?
No. Treat recording location, remote access and cloud features as separate questions. A locally stored clip does not prove that the entire app experience operates without internet access.
eufy’s E340 page explicitly notes that thumbnail notifications involve temporarily storing preview images in the cloud, and that selected cloud-backup features send video to the cloud. Avoid interpreting “local storage” as a promise that nothing ever leaves your home.
For a privacy-focused setup, review notification-preview options, account access, sharing settings and any optional backup service. For reliability, test the behavior you care about with your actual network and configuration. We are not claiming a tested outage result for either doorbell.
Ring’s exact model matters here too. The Battery Doorbell 2K is not supported by Ring Edge, according to Ring’s compatibility guidance. Buying an Alarm Pro is therefore not a local-recording workaround for this doorbell. Older compatible Ring equipment should be evaluated separately.
Package view and everyday battery upkeep
E340’s dual-camera arrangement is the stronger reason to consider it beyond the subscription question. Its additional downward-facing view is designed around the doorstep area. Ring Battery Doorbell 2K uses a single square, head-to-toe view. Neither specification proves which will show every parcel at your particular entrance.
A narrow door frame, a high mounting position or a step immediately below the camera can change the result. Look at your delivery spot before buying. If packages are normally left around a corner, a second camera aimed at that location may be more useful than replacing the doorbell.
Battery maintenance is another real difference. Ring Battery Doorbell 2K has a built-in rechargeable battery; eufy E340 has a removable rechargeable pack. A compatible spare can make an E340 charging routine more convenient, but it is an additional purchase.
Hardwiring does not remove every battery consideration. eufy says its E340 battery must remain installed even in wired mode. Ring describes optional wiring as a way to help maintain its battery charge. Follow each model’s installation requirements rather than transferring wiring advice between brands.
If a removable Ring battery is important to you, compare the Plus model before choosing the entry Battery Doorbell 2K. Our Ring battery-doorbell comparison covers that buying decision. Neither of the two models featured here should be purchased on the assumption that it provides continuous 24/7 recording.
Check Wi-Fi and the indoor chime before ordering
Both featured models use 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Check the signal at the door rather than assuming strong coverage beside your router means strong coverage outside. A metal door or a distant access point can make that difference important.
Decide how you want to hear a visitor indoors. E340 can work with a compatible existing mechanical chime, compatible Alexa devices, an optional T8023 MiniBase Chime or a supported HomeBase. Older eufy chimes are not universally compatible. Ring can use a compatible wired chime, a compatible Echo or an optional Ring Chime, depending on your setup.
Do not assume a chime or hub comes with the doorbell-only listing linked here. If you want an audible alert without relying on your phone, price and verify that part of the installation before checkout.
Which one should you buy?
Buy eufy E340 if avoiding a recurring recording bill is your priority. It is also the more interesting choice when packages at your feet are the reason you want a doorbell camera. Start with the doorbell and add compatible accessories only when there is a clear need.
Buy Ring Battery Doorbell 2K if your home already runs on Ring. Keeping the front door in the same app can be worth more than a small specification advantage. It is especially reasonable when an existing eligible multi-device plan already covers the location.
Compare alternatives if neither recording model fits. Our wireless doorbells without a subscription guide covers other local-storage arrangements. Our Ring vs. Blink comparison explains why the module included in a Blink bundle can change the answer.
Our overall pick for a new buyer who specifically wants local recording is eufy E340. For someone already invested in Ring, we would first check their current plan before recommending a switch.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Ring without a subscription?
Yes, for live viewing, alerts and two-way talk. Budget for a compatible plan if you want recorded history to review after an event. Our Ring without a subscription guide explains the distinction.
Does eufy E340 need HomeBase?
No. Its basic local recording uses built-in storage. A compatible HomeBase is optional for a larger system or a different storage arrangement; it is not automatically included with a doorbell-only listing.
Is eufy E340 compatible with Apple HomeKit?
No. eufy lists Alexa and Google Assistant support, but not HomeKit, for this model. Do not buy it expecting Apple Home integration simply because other eufy products support it.
Is eufy always cheaper than Ring?
No. Compare your actual hardware and accessory prices, then add recording costs over the period you expect to keep the device. Existing Ring plan coverage can change the calculation substantially.
How we compared these doorbells
We reviewed current manufacturer product information, Ring’s US plan and Edge documentation, eufy’s HomeBase compatibility and footage-retrieval guidance, and the exact linked product listings in October 2026. Recommendations prioritize recording access, recurring cost, package coverage and existing equipment. This is a researched comparison, not a claim of hands-on testing, measured image-quality superiority or tested outage performance.
