Choose eufy FamiLock S3 Max for its indoor visitor screen and motion detection. Choose Lockly Vision Zeno if Apple Home Key is the feature you will use every day. The biggest video difference is easy to miss: Zeno has a camera and doorbell, but no motion sensor. That matters more than a shared 2K label if you want footage of someone approaching without ringing.
FamiLock S3 Max vs. Lockly Vision Zeno: the quick verdict

BEST FOR INDOOR VIEWING
eufy FamiLock S3 Max
4-inch interior visitor display and palm-vein entry. Camera and palm access stop on AAA backup.

BEST FOR APPLE HOME KEY
Lockly Vision Zeno
Home Key, visitor intercom and an included hub. No motion sensor for passive approach recording.
This comparison covers FamiLock S3 Max and the Home Key-equipped Vision Zeno, model PGK798HK. The original Lockly Vision and Vision Elite are different products. Likewise, the regular FamiLock S3 lacks the Max’s built-in interior screen. Match those names before comparing offers.
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to compare both models.
| Feature | FamiLock S3 Max | Vision Zeno |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday entry | Palm vein, PIN, app, physical key | Home Key, fingerprint, PIN, app, physical key |
| Visitor camera | 2K HDR with night vision | Selectable up to 2K, night vision |
| Motion sensor | Yes | No |
| Interior visitor screen | 4-inch display on lock | No attached visitor screen |
| App networking | Direct Wi-Fi; optional HomeBase 3 | Included new-gen Vision Connect Hub |
| Apple Home Key | No | Yes |
| Main power | Rechargeable pack; AAA backup for limited functions | Rechargeable pack; two packs included |
| Recording priority | Motion-aware visitor monitoring | Selected door-access events and visitor interaction |
Both provide app-based visitor conversations and remote lock control when correctly connected. Plan Wi-Fi coverage at the door, and a powered location for Zeno’s hub.
Which lock is better at watching the doorstep?
FamiLock S3 Max is our starting choice when visitor monitoring is the main reason for replacing the lock. Its motion sensors and interior display give it a clearer role as an all-in-one entry device. That is an editorial recommendation based on documented features, not a claim that we measured faster alerts or better image quality.
Zeno’s missing motion sensor changes the job it can do. Someone who approaches, pauses and leaves without interacting with the door is different from a visitor who presses the bell or unlocks it. Do not buy Zeno assuming that a built-in camera automatically means approach-triggered recording. Lockly’s own comparison assigns motion detection to Vision Elite, not Zeno. Check Lockly’s model comparison.
Lockly lets you choose authentication events that trigger recording. Its camera-settings guide describes 15-second automatic clips and selectable 720p, 1080p or 2K resolution. That makes Zeno useful for reviewing selected door activity, but it is not the same promise as continuous surveillance. See Zeno’s recording settings.

For either lock, ask a practical question: what do you want recorded when nobody answers? If the answer is every part of a busy porch or driveway, consider a separately positioned camera. A camera fixed at deadbolt height cannot be moved independently to improve its view. Our camera smart-lock guide compares other combinations.
Why the indoor screen matters
The Max’s 4-inch display is on the inside of the door. It lets someone standing there check the visitor without opening an app. It is part of the lock, not the separate eufy Smart Display E10 sold in some bundles. See the FamiLock S3 Max configuration.
That can be the deciding feature if phones are often charging in another room or different household members answer the door. Picture the routine rather than the spec sheet: walk over, check the screen, decide whether to open. If you already use a convenient indoor doorbell display, the extra screen may add less value.
Zeno makes more sense if your priority is entering the house, especially with an Apple Watch, and your phone is already where you handle visitor calls. You are trading one kind of convenience for another.
Apple Home Key or Matter: choose the feature you actually want
Home Key is the reason to pick Zeno for an Apple-first household. Tapping a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch is different from opening an app. Fingerprint entry supplies another everyday route; codes and a physical key remain useful alternatives.
FamiLock’s Matter support is for smart-home lock integration. It does not give this model Apple Home Key or put its camera stream into Matter. eufy’s current product page says Matter and HomeBase 3 can work together, while explicitly excluding HomeBase 2. Older launch-era promises should not drive a purchase. Use the eufy app for its full camera features. Verify current compatibility.
Before buying, separate three questions: can your home platform control the lock, can your phone tap to unlock, and where can you watch the camera? A yes to one does not establish the other two. For Apple Home remote access and household sharing, check the compatible Apple home-hub requirements as well as the lock’s included networking hardware. Our Matter smart-lock guide explains why the platform badge alone is not the whole decision.
Batteries: backup entry is not backup video
The important FamiLock limitation is what happens when its rechargeable main battery is removed or depleted: AAA backup can preserve PIN entry, but the camera and palm-vein functions stop. Keep the main pack charged if video is part of your security plan. Its installation guide also distinguishes emergency external power from charging the internal battery. Read the official installation and battery guide.
Zeno’s package includes two rechargeable packs, which makes a charged-spare routine possible. Do not treat a manufacturer’s maximum battery-life figure as your recharge schedule: video use, temperature and door alignment can change the workload. Put the spare where it will actually be charged and accessible, rather than discovering it is empty when you need it.
Whichever model you choose, test the backup entry method after installation. Store the physical key somewhere useful outside the locked home. A backup plan you have never tried is easy to overestimate.
Storage and monthly costs
Local recording is the appeal of both systems, but compare the complete package and the features you will use. Zeno includes its new-generation Vision Connect Hub and a 32GB TF card. Do not confuse video capacity with the separate limits on access-history records. Expanded LocklyOS services can carry fees even when ordinary home use does not require a video subscription.
For FamiLock, check the current listing and app for storage details rather than relying on old review capacities. HomeBase 3 is a separate accessory unless the offer explicitly includes it. Optional equipment and services belong in your comparison total; do not assume the standalone lock price buys every ecosystem feature.
Our subscription-free smart-lock guide is useful if avoiding an ongoing bill is your priority. For any recording system, save important clips before they are overwritten and verify access from the device you expect to use.
Check your door before choosing a winner
eufy’s installation guide excludes storm doors and doors behind them because the camera view can be blocked. It also specifies a minimum 45mm spacing from the existing lock and explains the faceplate change for a round latch recess. A familiar-looking deadbolt hole does not guarantee a clean installation.
Measure the door thickness, backset, bore and clearance around the existing handle. Compare both manufacturers’ templates before ordering, particularly if the door has decorative hardware or unusually thick construction. For Zeno, use the PGK798HK installation resources, not an original Vision guide.
Our preference is to solve fit and camera position first. Returning a premium lock because it collides with a handle or looks straight into a screen door is more frustrating than spending a few minutes with a tape measure.
Which one is the better buy?
At our October 4, 2026 check, the US manufacturer pages listed FamiLock S3 Max at $399.99 and Vision Zeno at $429, before temporary promotions, taxes or accessories. Retailer offers change, so use the buttons for current pricing rather than treating that small gap as permanent.
Buy FamiLock S3 Max if the screen and motion-aware visitor workflow solve a problem in your home. Buy Vision Zeno if tapping an iPhone or Watch is worth more to you and you accept its recording-trigger limitation. If you already have a good camera at the door, a simpler lock may be the more sensible purchase.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lockly Vision Zeno the same as Vision Elite?
No. This article compares the Home Key-equipped Zeno. Elite has a different feature mix, including motion detection. Do not transfer specifications between them because both names contain Vision.
Does FamiLock S3 Max work with Apple Home Key?
No. Apple Home compatibility through Matter is not Home Key tap-to-unlock support. Zeno is the Home Key choice in this comparison.
Will Zeno record somebody walking up without ringing?
Do not rely on it for that job. Zeno lacks a motion sensor; its configurable automatic recording is tied to selected door-access events. Check those settings during setup.
Can FamiLock keep recording on its AAA backup batteries?
No. The manufacturer guide says video and palm-vein recognition are disabled on backup power, while PIN entry remains available. Recharge the main battery promptly.
How we compared these locks
This is a research-based comparison, not a hands-on test. We checked exact model names, current US manufacturer pages, installation documentation and camera settings on October 4, 2026. Recommendations reflect those documented differences; we did not measure recognition accuracy, alert speed, night footage or battery endurance.
